Our 15th Birthday Story
In June 2005, a group of 7 artists and makers held a two-week exhibition in the exhibition room at The Old Silk Mill in Chipping Campden. The landlord invited the group to set up a permanent co-operative of local artists and craftspeople and use the exhibition room as a gallery to sell and promote their work. Our first recruit was renowned local artist, David W. Birch, and the co-operative’s first exhibition was a one man show by David. It opened on 9th July, 2005.
Fifteen years later, circumstances have made us re-introduce headline shows for individual members and our first of these for 2020 will be hung on 9th July ready to open to the public on 10th July. What better way to celebrate our 15th birthday than with the re-opening of the gallery and an exciting series of individual shows. |

From that first exhibition the co-operative has grown tremendously. Of the seven original exhibitors, five became founding members of the co-operative which opened with a lucky 13 members in August 2005. We can now accommodate 28 members and are proud of the quality of work and diversity of media that we offer: glass, ceramics, hand painted silk and handmade textiles, up-cycled maps, painting, photography, sculpture and cabinet making.
We have shared laughter and tears, loves and losses, births, marriages and deaths but throughout it all we have been there for one another: stronger as a group than we would be individually and we thank each and every one of you who has supported us over the years.

About the Gallery
Attracted by the history of the building and Chipping Campden’s excellent reputation throughout the arts and crafts movement, a co-operative of more than twenty artists and artisans moved into the Old Silk Mill in 2005 bringing a variety of contemporary and traditional craftspeople to the home of The Guild of Handicraft.
The gallery at the guild is now a cooperative of 28 artists, ceramicists, designers, furniture makers, glass makers, metal workers, photographers, sculptors, stone carvers, textile artists and wood carvers. The co-operative promotes its members’ work and provides the public with an opportunity to meet its members, each of whom takes a turn at stewarding the cooperative’s various exhibitions. We are situated inside the Old Silk Mill: |
The gallery does not have an online shop as the items on display change regularly. However, we welcome enquiries regarding work by our members and will do our best to find or commission the piece you are looking for.
