Peter Lovelock
Drawing and Photography

Biography

Peter's work is an emotional response to the natural world and the elements that create and influence it’s evolution. Trees, plants, organic shapes, landscapes, seascapes, natural structures and rock strata are a particular inspiration to him. He is also inspired by the knowledge and ceremonies of Indigenous peoples and their connection with the earth and the wider universe.

The wilderness, beauty and isolation of the west coast of Scotland had a dramatic impact on Peter and was the initial impetus for him starting to draw/photograph to capture what he was feeling and seeing. This experience ‘sparked’ his emotions and continues to be a major influence in his work.

Peter is drawn to abstract shapes, ideas, or concepts which he feels compelled to capture and isolate, thus acknowledging and highlighting their beauty - this can form the basis of a new image, whatever the medium.

Peter enjoys working with a variety of media, including pen and ink, gold leaf, pencil, intaglio, 3D mixed media and photography. In addition to Peter's "nature" art work, he also enjoys recording people, places and events through the medium of photography. Urban streets, coastal areas, buildings, churches and machinery are of particular interest. As his work evolves, shapes & colour are becoming more important. A more recent development of his work has been to create short videos.
