Binks Edmonds
Jeweller and Sculptor

Biography

The joy, humour, and spiritual power of animals and nature are partly what feed Binks Edmonds’s imagination. Mythology, poetry, music, and dance also get filtered through the ‘Binks lense’ and are expressed as often whimsical and sometimes enigmatic figures. These take the forms of sculpture, jewellery, and dioramas.

As an ‘army brat,’ the daughter of an American army officer and Japanese mother, she travelled around the world and was exposed to many different mythologies. These have influenced her work: the figure of Crow stealing the sun to give the gift of light to humans; the boy-god Kintaro riding a giant koi; the water nymph Daphne being transformed mid-stride into a Laurel tree; and from her own dreams, a tirelessly galloping horse that represents creative power.

Through her mother, she gained appreciation of ceramics; organic forms; wabi-sabi, or the beauty of imperfection; and asymmetrical balance.

Binks’s jewellery has been published in two Lark Books in the 500 series, and her sculpture and jewellery can be found in private collections throughout the US, UK, Australia, and Europe. She has been a resident of the UK since 2000 and the Cotswolds since 2006. She lives with her British partner and their cat, also British, as evidenced by her love of scones.
