Peter's work is an emotional response to the natural world and the elements that create and influence it’s evolution. He is attempting to share with you what he is feeling and seeing. Trees, plants, organic shapes, landscapes, seascapes, natural structures and rock strata are a particular inspiration to him. He is also inspired by the knowledge and ceremonies of Indigenous peoples and their connection with the earth and the wider universe.
Peter is drawn to abstract shapes, ideas, or concepts which he feels compelled to capture and isolate, drawing attention to, acknowledging and highlighting their beauty - this will form the basis of a new image, whatever the medium.
The wilderness, beauty and isolation of the west coast of Scotland had a dramatic impact on Peter and was the initial impetus for him starting to draw/photograph to capture what he was feeling and seeing. This experience ‘sparked’ his emotions and continues to be a major influence in his work.
Peter enjoys working with a variety of media, including pen and ink, gold leaf, pencil, intaglio, 3D mixed media and photography. In addition to Peter's "nature" art work, he also enjoys capturing and recording people, places and events through the medium of photography. Urban and coastal areas, buildings, churches and machinery are of particular interest. As his work evolves, shapes and colour are becoming more important.
